About Us

Who We Are:

St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church is a member of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) which was founded in 1850 by five German emigrant pastors in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Today, the WELS consists of over 1230 congregations throughout the United States, missions in more than 20 foreign countries, and total membership of over 400,000.

What We Believe:

  • The Bible is God's inspired (given by the Holy Spirit) and inerrant (without error) Word.
  • God is Triune...three persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) yet one God.  He is holy, eternal, all-knowing, and almighty.
  • God created everything that is in six twenty-four hour periods of time and set man (Adam) and woman (Eve) apart as the most wonderful part of his creation.
  • Adam and Eve disobeyed God and brought sin into the world.  Now we and all people sin against God in our thoughts, words, and actions and have absolutely no power to save ourselves.
  • The holy God had every right to punish us for our sins, but because of his mercy he provided a way to save us from our rightful punishment by sending his Son, Jesus, as our perfect substitute. We call this grace...God's undeserved love shown to sinners.
  • Jesus Christ, true God and true Man, lived a sinless life and died an innocent death on the cross to pay for the sins of the entire world.  He rose from the dead physically on the third day as Lord Triumphant over sin, death and the devil.
  • All who trust in Christ's saving work have full pardon for all their sins. This faith is a gift of God through the working of the Holy Spirit.
  • The instrument the Holy Spirit uses to create and strengthen faith is the Word of God; therefore we see frequent contact with God's Word (home devotions, Bible study, and worship) as vitally important to our spiritual welfare.
  • When believers in Christ and his saving work die, their souls are taken to heaven where they will live forever in the presence of God in perfect holiness, peace and joy.  On the last day when Christ returns, their bodies will be raised and rejoined with their souls to live in eternal glory.
